A Detacher's rose pillow

I opened up last month's issue of Real Simple, and in the middle of a crazy-looking bedroom, I spotted a fluffy puffy ruffled bit of something really stunning, which turned out to be a rose pillow sold at the Manhattan boutique A Detacher.

Domino discovered this pillow some time ago by way of fashion stylist Linda Rodin. More recently it showed up on Design Sponge's sneak peak of Nina Gotlieb's home.

Is it not sculpturally scrumptious?

I believe I have figured out how to make it.

DIY Wednesday: Easy spring jeweled t shirt

Is anybody besides me ready for spring?

Here's an easy way to embellish a plain white tee. You will need:
I picked out the pins that made me think 'spring' - such as flowers, bees and butterflies - and pinned them along the neckline.

That's it. Done.

The colors remind me a little of Anthropologie's new Innumerable Necklace ($50) below.

To make a jeweled/sequined tee like j. crew's below, see this tutorial by Ann at Still Dottie.

Accordion sconce

Still on the lookout for bedside lighting and came across Pottery Barn's Bristol Accordian Sconce ($180-$280). PB's fake new pricey versions of 'neat old stuff that should be attainable at a flea market for a dime' usually annoys me, but this was just too cool to dislike.

I bet my Dad has something like this out in the garage to illuminate an oil change. Dad, get out there and find it.

Hawaii decor inspiration

The Koa Kea Resort at Poipu Beach, Kauai. We stumbled on it after a walk along the shore. I love it when an interior so perfectly and soothingly reflects the natural setting outdoors. Now I'm craving turquoise and green in my urban grey abode.

Images: Lobby images are mine; room images are from Koa Kea's website.

Dear Z Gallerie

Thank you for this.
Could you make this in charcoal, please?

Images: Zebra Shaped Rug, $170, (for comparision shopping, go here); Dean Sofa, $999 (it's also a sectional).

And it's . . .

. . . Hawaii, as you may have guessed by now.

Kauai, again, and the Big Island. Airfare was $250 a person. With a combination of staying with friends, points, mileage and brown bagging, we spent less than $50 a day per person for everything.

A few photos to warm the soul.

Big Island Highlights

This was one of the hikes out into a crater (don't remember its name) near the lava tubes. Long hike down to its edge and then a long hike over to the steam

Lava tubes are a must see. As you walk deep into them there are no lights and walkways. Very creepy!

Waited in the freezing damp cold to see the lava glow (no flow). Too bad there was not a huge eruption in January 2010

The slide at the Sheraton was fun!

We rented a convertible Mustang that started out with 34 miles on it :)

Thank you Natalie for featuring my project.
