We finally took a big first step forward in a foyer makeover first envisioned in 2009. (For the unattractive "before" images and my initial inspiration, see this post.) The wheels of progress turn slowly at Chez Bromeliad.
We bought the newish Expedit bookcase (the one with the staggered shelving) and turned it on its side. I'm amazed at how a big piece of white furniture can lighten up a space.
The accessories and photo frames were all castoffs from the neighbors. The photos are our own.
Sorry I can't give you one photo of the whole thing. I backed up clear into the hallway and it was still too tight for a wide shot. And the neighbors were staring.
The only drawback with the Expedit on its side is that the silver screwheads show on the ends of the bookcase, a detail that greatly disturbed me for about a day.
Do you have any little projects to share or some inspiration you've been sitting on for two years like me? Link up at my Inspired blog party.
Turning that bookcase on its side is a genius idea. It looks fantastic. And don't worry your wheels turn more quickly than they do at my place.
ReplyDeleteIf you were completely OCD you could buy some white paint for metal and dot it on the screwheads..............
The ensemble is beautiful. And you're right; the case is much better on its side.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, I have the Expedit too and also hate those screwheads. One of us should come up with a way to cover them up. I vote you. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love it! It looks SO good!
ReplyDelete=)
That looks brilliant. Love the way the port holes of the cupboard echo the art display. so cool.
ReplyDelete3 things I love:
ReplyDelete1) The tight spacing of your photo collage
2) The wide white matting.
3) The way you have your books stacked horizontally and vertically. Adds so much interest to the space. GREAT!
Your entryway looks great! Okay, you've inspired me to now address my long-ignored foyer...!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you give the silver screws a little white touch up paint??
ReplyDeleteA white paint touch up makes sense. I will get to it some time in the next two years.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge Expedit fan and I'm so glad you're pleased with the results, especially after all this time.
ReplyDeleteWheels turn very, very slowly here, too, which sometimes is a good thing as I've been known to change my mind about what I want before the project even gets underway :)
it looks awesome!
ReplyDeletegod i have such a love/hate thing with ikea. but i love their shelves. LOVE THEM. even though i hate the hoopla of dealing with that store and putting it together, it pretty much can't be beat for rad shelving!
p.s. thank you for all of the comments...LOVED THEM!
I love this, this looks sooo great! AND I can't believe you got all these frames from your neighbors?!?! What? Only in NYC, I guess?
ReplyDeleteoh I see! I see! I totally get the vibe :)
