Above, no-sew felt storage boxes from Design and Form. Easy, stylish, cheap.
Abstract art paper boxes from Design Sponge. Easy and cheap for items that aren't too heavy since it's made from craft paper.
DIY storage boxes with a button closure from Skona Hem. Not easy but sure good looking.
Here's a storage idea from Jebiga Design Magazine. Not super practical for most of us, but if you have boxes you can't put out of sight, make them into artwork.
My own storage boxes, made from discarded blueprints. I made these four years ago and still use them. Practically free and not too hard.
On the left, inspiration from Scandinavian Deko. Sometimes plain old cardboard looks pretty good, especially with a nice consistent label (you could also try a bright washi tape.) On the right, cover round boxes with images of texture for a nature inspired look from Craft and Creativity.
Fabric covered cardboard boxes turned into storage totes with the addition of thrift-store belts from Brit & Co.

DIY IKEA box makeover from Whimsy Darling. Plain white boxes are made artful with black paint.

Love the artwork storage box idea ... it reminds me of those puzzles that have one open slot and you have to move the pieces around until you complete the picture. Sure those puzzles have a name, anyone? Also great idea to repurpose belts as handles for homemade boxes ... or even to add to baskets already owned. I need to come up with a way to store all the accessory stuff (charging bricks, power and other cords, etc) that come with today's cool mobile devices. Really, the devices may be small but all their stuff that needs to be stored really adds up! If I come up with a clever solution or good diy storage I"ll let you know.
ReplyDeletePlease do! Currently I use one of the shallow shelves from my Expedit bookcase. There's a power strip tucked in the back and we stack our laptop and iPads on the shelf for charging.

Beautiful! In light of maintenance, when using paper to repurpose and decorate boxes, plastic wrap another layer over to protect your newly covered boxes from dampness and getting damaged. It may ruin the texture of your design, so have a think on how long you'd like to keep them.
